Over the past two weeks, we've had another landslide of generative AI news, mostly revolved around large language models (LLM). Llama 3 was the biggest story, but the debut of new models by Microsoft, Mistral, and X.ai also pointed to a downstream impact. We also have a couple of nine-figure funding rounds, a nine-figure acquisition, and a new unicorn valuation is confirmed. #generativeai

It's always great to see a podcast orient a segment around a Synthedia article. Even better to hear Charles Araujo and Hyoun Park of Amalgam Insights extend this conversation and apply the insights from Yann LeCun to the impact on enterprise CIOs regarding key limitations of autoregressive LLMs in regards to AGI.
Bret Kinsella of Synthedia provided an interesting structural breakdown of AI challenges that every CIO should be considering based on an interview with Yann LeCun. LLM weaknesses in understanding the world, persistence, reasoning, and planning all provide challenges for the #CIO. Hyoun and Charles explore what this means for the future of IT on This Week in Enterprise Tech. https://lnkd.in/gFjGpz_G

xAI just announced Grok-1.5V, its multimodal vision model. This comes less than two weeks after the LLM debuted. The benchmark results look impressive. There are some interesting market implications of what X.ai has done in just ten months. Now, the question is whether the company can secure a deal with a cloud hosting provider (Amazon Web Services (AWS) 😀) and land some customers. For a full breakdown, check out the article. We begin this news update with three thematic discussions. The generative AI myths segment reviews the recent Stargate rumors and why journalists are so easily co-opted into publishing stories that may have a seed of truth shrouded in impractical, nonsensical claims. We also discuss three news items highlighting how generative AI is transforming the search market and the coalition of companies that want to displace NVIDIA from its generative AI throne. That is followed by an onslaught of news from the end of March and early April, including an LLM rundown that includes announcements from Anthropic, X.ai, Databricks, and AI21 Labs, as well as a dedicated section on OpenAI announcements. Funding highlights include HeyGen and Hailo. There is also news from Adobe, Opera, Samsung, Open Interpreter, and Financial Times. #generativeai

What a great application of ethical generative AI use and great execution through PartyRock. The UI layout features of PR really come in handy on this one.

AI has huge promise in education but raises ethical concerns. My older daughter, Tessa Kibbe, is a college student, and we have had long discussions about using AI ethically to help with school. These discussions were the genesis for collaborating on the creation of Essay Eagle - https://bit.ly/essay-eagle - an AWS PartyRock AI app. Using Essay Eagle, a student can ask for an outline or paste in a draft of an essay, enter their academic level and the essay type, and the AI creates: - An essay outline, if requested - If an essay is entered, an AI rewrite for the student to compare and contrast to what they have written - A critique of the essay with suggestions for improvements - A chatbot to let the student discuss the outline, rewrite, critique, or anything else about their essay The whole idea was to create an AI assistant to help students write better. An AI writing tutor, if you will. This is very much a prototype for a larger idea - stay tuned! Check it out at: https://bit.ly/essay-eagle All the credit goes to Tessa Kibbe for this one. If you are reading this, she would love for you to follow here. She is starting to understand the value of networking. This was one of our entries to the AWS PartyRock Hackathon.
